Why Do You Need Beard Oil and What are The Benefits?

As we approach the time of the year in which many men find themselves wanting to grow out their beards. Whether it be for the first time or if you're a seasoned seasonal grower, some guys still ask "Why do I need beard oil?" "What are the benefits of beard oil?" or "Why should I use beard oil?" Before we can effectively answer these questions we need to cover exactly what beard oil is.

What is Beard Oil?

Beard oil is primarily a moisturizing agent that both moisturizes the beard and softens the hair. However, beard oil also moisturizes the skin underneath. Typically, people utilize beard oil to make the beard appear more full, healthy, softer, and appear more tidy. Beard oil is also known to help with itching, flaking, and skin irritation. Beard oil is not just for those who have beards; it can also be used on mustaches.

Why Should You Use Beard Oil?

Makes the Beard Softer and More Healthy

Beard oil is primarily a moisturizing agent that both moisturizes the beard and softens the hair. Additionally, beard oil strengthens the beard, preventing breakage, thus making it more healthy. Beard oil is the easiest way to make your beard look healthier and softer. Beard oil also helps with split ends, so you won’t have to trim as often! Beard Oil Prevents Beard Itchiness and Beardruff, It may seem counterintuitive, but using a good beard oil can actually help prevent itchy and flakey beard/skin.

Makes the Beard Appear More Tidy

Normally, your beard hair is much more coarse and more rough than the hair on your head. Beard oil not only adds a nice shine, it also softens the beard and helps tame the more unruly strands of hair, thus giving your beard a more neat and tidy appearance. Beard oil can help prevent beard dandruff because it moisturizes the skin and hair under your beard. It also helps to soften up all of those dreaded little itch-causing hairs so they don’t get caught in your bristly whiskers. A tidy appearance will ensure your beard is looking its best and will also make people take you a bit more seriously. Beard oil can also add a nice shine to your beard. This is especially true if you have darker colored hair. The oils will help to give your beard a bit of luster and make it look healthier overall. Beard Oil prevents beard dandruff, or seborrheic dermatitis, is a very common problem that can be treated with Beard Oil.  Make Your Beard Appear Fuller

Beard Oil can make an unruly and/or scraggly beard appear fuller. Because of this, some people use beard oil to aide in the growth process. Beard Oil can also be used to help create or maintain well-groomed facial hair. Beard oil is especially beneficial for people with very dry skin beneath the beard, because it will provide much needed moisture. Beard Oil is made up of ingredients that are natural and nourishing to both your face and the hairs on your face. Beard oils often contain vitamin E, which is beneficial in repairing damaged hair follicles. Beard oils also contain essential fatty acids and minerals like zinc that are vital to healthy beard growth.

Moisturizes the Skin Under Your Beard

Beard oil helps keep the skin under your beard healthy and moisturized. It also helps reduce beardruff (beard dandruff) and that undesirable itch. Beard itch is caused by the skin being dry, so using a good quality beard oil will help to prevent that. Beard itch can also be caused by trapped sweat and bacteria in the beard hair follicles. Beard oil helps loosen and dissolve the build-up , which in turn helps to prevent beard itch. Beard oil also helps keep your beard hair soft and tangle free. The oils penetrate the hair shaft, helping to condition it and make it more manageable. This is especially helpful if you have a curly or wavy beard. Beard oil also helps to hydrate the skin underneath your beard, which in turn makes you look healthier and more attractive (which is always good for business). Beard oils are available scented or unscented with all different kinds of essential oils like vanilla, cedarwood , eucalyptus etc.

Make the Beard Smell Great

Another added bonus is that beard oil typically smells really good. However, this should not be the primary focus. Additionally, it is preferred if you use a beard oil that utilizes essential oils vice artifical fragrances. This is because essential oils hold additional benefits, while artifical fragrances do not. If you have a scent that you like, check out our Fragrance Guide to see if we offer a scent you prefer.

How to Use Beard Oil

The best time to use Beard Oil is typically after a shower, because your pores are open. This allows the oil to absorb into your skin effectively. However, we recommend using oil 2x per day (morning and night). It is highly important to dampen your beard with warm water before applying the oil.  This will help the beard hair to better absorb the oil. Rub a dime size of Beard Oil into your hands and massage it throughout your beard, making sure to get all the way down to the skin. Style as desired.

When applying beard oil, it is important to remember not to use too much. Otherwise, your beard will look very greasy, not clean or tidy.

Here are some general guidelines (remember, every beard is unique)

  • Place 5-10 drops in the palm of your hand and rub into beard in a downward motion (again ensure the beard is damp)
